I am an introvert with a passion for apologetics. It’s precisely because my nature doesn’t match the passion that I’m convinced that the calling is from God. He has responded and confirmed the call by giving me the ability to speak publicly while not changing my introverted nature. He also called me for some years to be a pastor and yet, I am not a ‘people person’ – my nature is to love solitude – to retreat with a pile of good apologetics books, theology, Plato, etc and to sometimes go a full week or more without talking to anyone – but God has also given this ‘recluse’ some solid people skills – affirming me in the pastoral role he led me into. In all my paid ‘tent-making’ work God has put me where I can help people and need strong people skills and conflict resolution skills. Without these jobs I’d happily exist without people at all, but I know that isn’t good for me as a Christian. I just have to deliberately make an effort towards friendship – and I’ve found some solid Christian company which I thrive on while still being deeply introverted by nature.
