I was a Mormon since birth or baptism which ever you’ll consider for the past 43 years. Yes my faith was based on my parents. While I hoped it was true, the older I got the less I was interested. I tried to have that moment where some great talk reached out to my heart but for several years the talks/ teachings I had received weren’t taking me any closer or confirming by beliefs. Sure I had a testimony. But every part of the LDS church lacked a foundation of evidence. There was no proof of its existence othen then more stories or testimonies.

A few years ago the LDS church made a decision that affected the membership of thousands! They said children of gay/lesbian couples couldn’t be baptized. I agreed with that and thought it made sense based on how I was taught. Then a few years later that decision was reversed. At that moment I knew the LDS church wasnt being led by a prophet that speaks to God! And if that wasnt true, then everything regarding the LDS religion was also not true either.

I began researching and found many errors, teachings, false claims, etc. The LDS church has a set of essays to explain away certain truths. For instance one about how the book of mormon was translated. All of my years I had never heard the truth or a different view as the church claims. Sadly even the church contridicts its teaching. They show paintings of JS using a breastplate with glasses as tools, when he really used a rock and hat.

Along with these and many other’s were enough for me to step back and say “oh my gosh, this church isn’t true!” Living in mormonville (Idaho) most of my life its hard walking away from the one thing that ties most of us together. Not all of my family has been accepting of my choice to leave. But I can honestly say that I have never been happier! Even with no real direction or compass. I just keep living my life as I see fit.

The one thing the church has left me with is wondering wether or not JC was a real person. I believe there is a creator. But I dont believe the mormons know who he/she is. I dont believe there are 3 degrees of glory. I dont believe JS was anything but a false prophet. Sure the church has some nice teachings and teaches people to have good morals. But unless you are out there to wreck things that could be said of about any organization.

So thinking of the graditude I have towards the LDS church. Really there isnt much for a place that was all created on a lie!
