I think one of the biggest issues of why Young People leave the church starts in the home. God says to “Train up a child in the way he will go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6. Unfortunately, parents do not have the biggest influence in their child(rens) lives when you send them to the public school. Quoting Voddie Baucham “We cannot continue to send our children to Caesar for their education and be surprised when they come home as Romans.” This even applies to college. Parents leave spiritual matters to the church–putting God in your childrens’ lives only 2 times a week (if you are taking them to Sunday church and Wednesday only) does not raise a Godly child. Parents need to daily train their child (train meaning to teach a particular skill or type of behavior through practice and instruction over a period of time). This is a day to day requirement and it is the PARENTS responsibility to teach their children the Bible–God’s love and obedience to God’s word. Teaching them about having a ‘relationship’ with Jesus not a church religion. It starts with the home. The second reason I feel young people do not stay at church is because the church, unfortunately, looks just like the world. I realize the saved are just sinners saved by grace and are a work in progress. The church should be the training ground–to help train up Christians in their growth. Yet, even though the Bible teaches us to “GO ye therefore into all the world and preach the Gospel…” Matthew 28: 19-20; Mark 16: 15-16, church spends all their time bringing the unsaved INTO the church and spend their time preaching to the unsaved where the saved are neglected in their growth by the preaching. I do not see anywhere in the Bible where it says to bring the unsaved into the church. Why would you, on the Day God told us Christians to rest–and the day we use to worship the Lord, why would you bring in Satan into the church. People spend 6 days in the world with work and such where Sunday is our day to worship and rest and are able to be recharged spiritually for the Lord and we invite in Satan. I think it does not help young people being in the world (if they go to public school)6 days and when they go to church they get nothing but milk, for pastors preach for the unsaved–their is no growth and the young people see the church looking just like the world they dont see Christianity as any different then the world. We need to get back to “Training our Children in the way they should go…” “Going out and preaching the gospel–and leave the 7th day to worshiping the Lord…and for discipleship and spiritual growth for Christians to be recharged to go back into the world and shine Christ to the unsaved.” I have taught in church all the ages (ages 2-college and career)sometime or another for 35 years. and I have my degree in education was a former teacher in the public school–started my children in the public school until God got ahold of my heart and brought my 4 kids home to homeschool. All my kids are now in their 20’s and love God and serve him. It can be done. I am speaking from experience. Thank you for all you do. I love “Cold-Case Christianity” You are a blessing to me and my family.
