Are churches familiar with Christian apologetics? Are they open to defending the claims of Christianity with their congregations? How can we encourage the Church to embrace Christian Case Making? J. Warner joins a conference panel from his time serving with Stand to Reason to answer these questions.

Our experience is that churches (& individual Christians) are rarely interested in apologetics. But it is even more rare for churches & individuals to be interested in evangelism. Some like the idea of being able to hold their own in a debate over Christianity, and enjoy watching debates on you tube or listening to a well known apologist. But even fewer are interested in seeing non Christians come to faith in Jesus, at least not interested enough they will actually equip themselves to clearly articulate the essentials of Christianity in a rational, conversational way in the hope of seeing someone they (claim to) care about come to a saving relationship with the Savior.

My wife & I are missionaries in Washington State with Evangelism Explosion International, a ministry dedicate to supporting, encouraging and equipping churches to equip the saints to share the gospel. But rather than equip themselves to share the Gospel, many American Christians are content to pay the “professionals” (pastors & evangelists)to do that work. And the pastors, teachers, and evangelists often seem content with that arrangement, where church members invite people to church & preachers do the evangelism (rather than preach to equip the church members to do evangelism)
As ironic as it is, people who pray for the salvation of a relative, co-worker, friend, or neighbor, are often reluctant to invest any time in learning to share the Gospel, and then putting what they learn to use in everyday life. 95% of believers never lead even one person to faith in Jesus. 2/3 of churches offer no training in evangelism; 50% of evangelical churches will not have one addition through conversion in the next year. $3 trillion will be spent by churches in the next 10 yrs with no growth. Today, there are more unbelievers open to hear the Gospel than there are Christians willing to share the Gospel. Pray the Lord of the harvest, that He sent laborers…
