Is it possible to love Jesus yet work as a police officer? Will a career in law enforcement force me to compromise my Christian values? Is there something inherently evil about the profession, or can a Christian worldview actually help us survive and thrive as police officers? J. Warner answers these questions in this episode of the NRBtv Cold-Case Christianity Broadcast.

Be sure to watch the Cold-Case Christianity Broadcast on NRBtv every Monday and Saturday! In addition, here is the audio podcast (the Cold-Case Christianity Weekly Podcast is located on iTunes or our RSS Feed):

For more information about the reliability of the New Testament gospels and the case for Christianity, please read Cold-Case Christianity: A Homicide Detective Investigates the Claims of the Gospels. This book teaches readers ten principles of cold-case investigations and applies these strategies to investigate the claims of the gospel authors. The book is accompanied by an eight-session Cold-Case Christianity DVD Set (and Participant’s Guide) to help individuals or small groups examine the evidence and make the case.

I wouldn’t think that being a police officer and a Christian would seem incompatible. I was in the Navy for 20 years, and some people would question if a Christian be in the military, which I would also say absolutely, since after my first four years of service I became one, though I was a Navy Corpsman, which is to save a life, though to protect a injured serviceman and oneself, it would be necessary to shoot to kill. My question is about those in the alphabet agencies. I had a Sunday School teacher who was an FBI agent, so I don’t question the FBI, but what about those in the NSA and the CIA? Those agencies seem to be problematic for a Christian to be in.

Your assumption that the media narrative that police in today’s culture are the problem is in error. The false narrative is not true just because the media says so. I was a cop in the 70s and a Christian. I became troubled by the inhumanity I saw smelled tasted and had to wash off almost daily, and my faith. I went to a priest. He reminded me of the centurion.

I never really interacted with the police until I called 911 last year to report domestic violence and sexual abuse of my children. There is something about knowing the “protectors” have arrived and are at the door to ensure your safety. It was the most relief I had felt in YEARS! I know that certain military police that came to my door that day were Christian. It was in their care, their eyes, their professionalism, and their very presence that told me. I will never forget the ones who were “DIFFERENT!”
Peace to you and may your work go to new heights this year Sir!
